Imagine putting your chips on people. You only have so many resources (chips) to invest - time, money, opportunity, relationship, etc.

You take the first step, take the lead in that relationship, and if they start putting chips back on you, then you can continue to invest and mutually build each other up.

You get to gamble on those you meet, and sometimes you'll win big.
